Merotika is an adult dark fantasy story driven game with an emphasis on the player expression. You will take the reins of the Dreamer, explore worlds, develop relationships, build a community, discover mysteries, and make memories.

Welcome to the Grand Dream

You wake up from a dream you can't quite remember. You feel a harsh sense of longing, pain and despair. It is vague, but you try everything in your power to hold onto the last words you heard. "Come find me," the ghostly voice whispered as if coming from the deepest recesses of your mind. You stumble around your room in a hazy stupor. The room softly illuminated with a thin shroud of glowing LEDs from the electronics that surround you. A fleeting figment catches the corner of your eye from the standing mirror in the corner. You approach and reach out to it. You see an angelic silhouette before you reaching a luminous white hand from the mirror. As soon as you take hold of it's hand, shadowy arms emanate from the mirror and grasp onto you. Clawing at your flesh. Squeezing onto your body until you are drowning in an endless ocean of darkness. You try to scream but nothing comes out. The vision of the radiant figure fades. Your body grows cold and heavy until it finally succumbs to unthinkable numbness. One moment passes. Then another. It feels like you are lost in the black ichor for eternity; Until finally, you hear faint voices off in the distance. You find yourself in the Grand Dream.

Main Cast of Characters

Short and sprightly, Mila is kind and caring with an insatiable inquisitiveness for all knowledge. She spends her days taking care of the Hideaway for other Felkin within the lands of The All Mother.

Brash and headstrong. Her boldness masks an underlying pain that makes it difficult for her to connect with others. However, she is fiercely loyal, and will do anything to protect those that she cares for.

Deftly charismatic. She can diffuse a brutish anger to the pangs of guilt with her heartfelt sincerity alone. She has become incredibly proficient at camouflaging the torrent of emotion that lays buried within.

Someone important to you from your time in the 'Waking World'. Some think of them as immature due to their outlandish behavior, yet they carry with them a burdensome strength unlike that which most have ever witnessed.

Development Plans

I intend for this game to be free to play for all users. This project will be funded through donations, either directly or through my Patreon.

I try to be as transparent as I can about the development of this project so if you have questions feel free to ask them!

My plans are to release full updates for each of the major chapters, of which 5 are currently planned excluding the prologue.

Merotika will be developed first and foremost in English for PC, as those are the languages and platforms I am familiar with. As I am working on this project on my own, any additional language and platform support will have to be addressed at some other time.

Trigger Warning

Merotika features adult themes (sex, violence, death, depression, etc), heavy elements of psychological horror, and at least one spider.

While I will try my best to include options to help each player tailor the game to their preference, there is only so much I can do while maintaining the fundamental story I wish to tell.

Inspiration

The following games have been the kinds of experiences that I pull inspiration from and have absolutely shaped the kind of project I want to make.

• Harem Hotel - The Visual Novel that had really got me interested in settling down on this game in the first place.

• Life is Strange - One of my recent favorite narratives of all time. The amount of details and subtle foreshadowing condensed into the story still has me amazed.

• Dark Souls - The kind of series I turn to with interesting yet subtle world building and tight game play mechanics.

• Cyberpunk 2077 - Honestly one of the games that inspired my intended dialogue system. I was so frustrated with elements of how the story was managed and how the story insisted on the character that I literally started designing a system to avoid similar pitfalls.

• Elder Scrolls - The further I have gotten in development, the more I realized that a lot of the design choices have been influenced on the kind of game I always wanted the Elder Scrolls series to be. There is a reason I spent so long modding Skyrim to turn it into an adventure life sim with more focus on roleplay.
